Speaker Bio
Bill Braun retired in February 2025 as the CIO and President of Information Technology at Chevron, a position he has held since 2015. Having started with the company in 1991 as a programmer, Braun brought his extensive experience and insight to his role, overseeing the thousands of employees within Chevron’s IT organization and actively advising on potential technology investments.

Under Braun's leadership, Chevron saw advancements in IT performance and the integration of new technologies into business operations. Braun views AI as a tool to enhance human productivity rather than replace it. In 2018, he played a pivotal role in establishing a partnership with Microsoft for the implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT)-powered predictive maintenance program for oil field refineries. Recognizing the potential impact of small startups, Braun was also active in partnerships via Chevron Technology Ventures, the company’s corporate venture fund. In July 2023, Chevron made a significant move by joining the Responsible AI Institute.

“The benefits of AI are going to far surpass the risks that we think we can manage and so applying it to our core business and bringing our workforce along with us on this AI journey is something we think is really important."

“All jobs are going to be affected by AI in some way, and the vast majority are going to be just improvements in terms of their productivity and hopefully reducing some of the things that are least enjoyable in their work.”
